Matthew Ames Fall/Winter 2010 collection was one of the barest collections I've seen in a long time. Clean lines and shapes. No over accessorising or "it" shoe, all that mattered were the clothes. There were loads of beautiful draping and butter-soft leather. And with so many collections filled to the brim with embellishments, it was a welcome change to see one that relied heavily on the designer's skills. I happily sat blinded by the incoming lights and watched with adoration as Mr. Ames gave us his vision for Fall/Winter 2010, which had a quiet power about it.
One of the aspects I paid attention to were the tailoring and quilted patterns on several pieces. It was nice to see how each piece moved on the models, as nothing appeared overwhelming. The colour palette was a mix of camel, grey, and black that was balanced by pops of pastels.
New York Fashion Week is over but there is still plenty to share. I took a few days off to regroup to ensure that there were no redundancies, so each designer could get their proper due. Onward.
