When I opened London-based designer Samantha Cole's email and saw just one image I sat and looked and then sent her email to the entire editorial staff for the magazine. They all agreed I had to share her work on the blog. The shapes and the materials used immediately caught my eye. I kept going between really loving this collection to not being sure if I'd share it. Sometimes this happens to me when I see so much potential in a designer. I want to keep them to myself. I want to wait until they've designed a few collections before I share. But sometimes you can't be selfish, you have to share someone who you think is taking risks and creating a dialogue with their vision front and center. Ms. Cole designs for those who aren't afraid to rock shapes that may not be immediately flattering. There is a soft and strong aspect to the collection below, a vulnerability very few are willing to share and this is what captures me. You can't package-up Samantha's designs into a neat little bow and think they're for everyone, but that's the fun part. I hope to see her push the boundaries further in future collections because this is what people remember — the emotions that a piece or collection evokes. And right now everything from the shapes to the styling, and photography has me wanting to see more.
