Designer Siliva Tcherassi may be thought of as a new designer to some here in the states, but Tcherassi has designed successfully for the past 15 years in her native Colombia. Amassing extensive accolades globally throughout her career, she is credited as being the most internationally projected Latin designer.
Earlier this week I had the opportunity to view her beautiful creations up close and personal. Color excites me and this is the first visible thing you see when looking at Tcherassi's designs. Her use of color is evidently influenced by the landscape of her native home. Using exclusive silk prints made in Lake Como Italy, a few pieces were reminiscent of the various shades of the ocean. Along with ready-to-wear and bridal collections, she designs an extensive range of accessories which were some of my favorites, like the multi-colored rubber necklaces, bright gaudy stones merged with plastic, and the clove shaped copper discs strung onto thin knotted material to create a unique necklace. These are all examples of Tcherassi's unique style. I was extremely amazed by the craftsmanship of her elegant wedding gowns — strapless dresses with intricate pleating wrapped around beautiful colors like chartreuse and pale pink. Almost all of the pieces were made from silk and as you can see in the pictures translated in different ways. I'm sure we will all see a lot more of Tcherassi in the near future as she continues to expand her empire and embark on various endeavors that will continue pushing her to the forefront of fashion design.
