Johannesburg-born designer Alexander Koutny has been on my radar, so when I got the chance to have a closer look at his S/S 2010 I couldn't resist, because some designers deserve a closer inspection to see the details and how the pieces fall in person. His S/S 2010 collection is dubbed Kaskade and is a continuation of his Fall 09 Displaysia collection, which he says is inspired by arches and water. You can see both influences in the Peak jumpsuit, the cut-outs on the Horizon dress, and the Duo dress. I absolutely love his use of volume and structure, which I find to be far more flattering silhouettes than most who play around with shape. There is no weird out of place fabrics or illusions of the wearer being hipper than she is. Visit and explore the entire collection, below is a closer look at the pieces I adore.
