Commentary:
Now, for a little update I'm a away for a bit, shoe business, but the blog will be updated like always. When I arrived to my destination this morning I found myself in a doozy. I have a new design assistant, and he's been helping me with the blog, well he sent me a few links, but failed to tell me that he found them on another blogger's website. I of course didn't credit and I felt horrible when I found out, because I'm always preaching about "citing one's source". That's why the 2 posts you saw up have been taken down. I get enough PR pitches and designers contacting me to not have to lift from fellow bloggers. And just like I want folks to credit SheBreathes when they find something they like, I hold myself and anyone who contributes to this blog to the same standards. So apologies all around. I could've taken them down with no explanation, but I felt this was perfect for sharing. As most of you know I don't believe in redundancy and if I do share what I find on another blog, I cite properly. While, we may all run into the same or similar designers I just don't believe in lifting from other bloggers, especially without credit in the original post {we all have standards}, thus why I decided to take the posts down. And while the matter has been cleared-up I know how it feels to work hard on your features, only to have someone come and snatch it up and NOT give you credit. This is a lesson learned + should be caution to those who love to right click and forget where they found that designer. An extra line of credit is all it takes, give that blogger some love for discovering a designer you found amazing on their space.
Now Breathe . . .
I have so many plans to grow SheBreathes, and it's because of this that I have to hire someone to help me. But I need someone who knows fashion + blogging {my assistant really shouldn't have been helping me with the blog}. Despite the growth plans, SheBreathes is an indie blog. I have only had ONE sponsored giveaway on here, and nary an ad to sell you anything, yet {smile}. So while I created a media company to house SheBreathes + any sister site {this is just good business practice}, it's still just me and the contributors I've asked to come on. And we most certainly consider this space indie, there is no big corp funding this blog. I still only believe in sharing what I like. No one pays for me to say the things I say, hell I don't even pay myself for working on SheBreathes. She's my baby, always will be with or without press mentions. And she will continue to grow, and I hope you stick around for where I take this space. 3 years and counting.
Blogging Assistant:
And I say all of this to announce that I'm putting out a call on here first before I actually go to Problogger {smile} and at universities. I need a blogging assistant with experience in fashion. The person must live either in NYC or the tristate area {NY, NJ, CT, even Philly}. I get way too many invites to showrooms, shows, parties, etc. I can't do it all and I'd really like someone who can go on behalf of SheBreathes. I get so many pitches/looksbooks a day, so you must love e-mails, and going through them {smile}. You must have an eye for details, and pretty much know what will be something I would want to take a second look at. I will need this person 3 days a week, which will come out to about 12 hours a week.
Some details:
- This is a {lightly} paid gig {you won't get rich, but you'll have fun}. If you're in school for journalism or writing, my media company is legal and we can work on helping you get credit. I work with Parsons and FIT for fashion interns with no issues under my design firm, so the possibilities are there.
- You must be flexible, this is an absolute must. While most of the work will be via the net, email etc. There are events that you must be willing to attend. And while you'll usually get ample notice for events {since you'll be reading the emails}, sometimes they are last minute. Reliability is important.
- Know and understand fashion {as in a pleat from a ruffle}, professional, friendly, fun, cool, and be yourself. I have no desire to work with someone straight from the pages of Vogue, and I surely can't pay you to maintain that Carrie-esque status, so just be you. Your own style is good enough for me. Whether you rock pumps daily or trainers, if you're interested send me an email with some basic information about you, and a sample write-up.
Some Perks:
- 1 year of paid membership to WWD online
- Lightly Paid for 12 hours.
- Travel expenses covered {to events}.
- Fashion Weeks, Showrooms, Parties, etc
- Canon Xsi that you can use to take awesome fotos of the events you attend for SheBreathes.
- Flip Mino HD to record video on. {you get to keep this}
- 1 year paid subscription to your favourite magazine.
- 1 8GB iPod Touch {you get to keep this}.{It says SheBreathes.com on the back lol}.
Send all emails to me at editor {at} shebreathes {dot} com with "Blog Asst" in the subject.
Now, that was a lot to read, so I'll save the best part that will be coming to the blog for tomorrow and another feature will be up soon.
Beijinhos.
