Edgy Romance | Sharon Wauchob

After receiving an e-mail from one of my favourite online shops, Reborn about their current sale I was prompted to see what Irish designer Sharon Wauchob's latest collection looked like. While I've never shared my love for Ms. Wauchob's work on here, I am a fan. Below are looks from her Fall 09 collection that's filled with a heavy dose of different pleating effects on the dresses, voluminous coats, and some skinny trousers with leather insets that add a bit of edge to the overall collection. The website I have for her seems out of sorts, so do visit Reborn to see some of the pieces they carry by her, as well as another boutique favourite of mines Anastasia.

Layers | Bitte Kai Rand

I've been sitting on the fence with Danish label Bitte Kai Rand's S/S 09 collection for a while now. At first I thought it was too trendy, but over time I just couldn't resist liking the layers upon layers in this collection. The styling is pretty spot-on and inspiring, which of course begged the question if these would translate well off the runway. I haven't tried any yet, but I have high hopes of pulling off the first look, while I'm on hols. They also kill two trends with one stone adding in the boyfriend look for good measure. Perhaps a bit too perfect, but definitely not sloppy or frumpy. There is an art to layering and I think Bitte Kai Rand captured it beautifully with his collection. Visit and explore more because there is loads I didn't share.

 BITTEKAIRAND-COLLAGESS09

I also liked the make-up used on the models and the ribbon detail in the hair below, it's unexpected because she's rocking a hat, but there is more to discover when you see her walking away — nice.

Photographer | David Titlow + VV Brown

I've been slowly falling in love with British singer VV Brown's music, so it's no surprise that upon perusing London-based photographer David Titlow's virtual hub that I was drawn to the photoshoot he did with her. I'm diggin' his style and I love that he captures his subjects in their natual surroundings rather than a studio. My favourites pulled + shared below. Visit and explore more of Mr. Titlow's world because it's a smorgasbord of goodness that doesn't feel overly slick or trendy.

Soft Armor | d_luxe

I'm so glad the designers of d_luxe, Karie and Megan sent their lookbook for their Summer Set 09/10 collection over. Although I've featured them back in January, I was extremely excited to see that the ladies are still creating drool-worthy pieces, like their dream catcher cocktail rings, pink leather pouches, and stacked Patti rings. Once again the contrasting elements is what draws me in. Although the ladies said this collection was all about exploring their muse Patti Smith's softer side. I think they've done a beautiful job of blending the soft + hard perfectly with this collection. It screams feminine, punk, and chic. Everything is so visually pleasing that it was hard to pick just one or even a few pieces. I will be exploring their stockist, until their online shop opens. Visit and indulge with me.

Dluxe-collage-newsummer

And of course I couldn't resist showing the darker pieces, just to prove that they've created a perfect balance of goodies. The studded leather bracelets in black are my favourite, they also come in nude.

Discover | Georgia Hardinge

I get super happy when I discover a designer that's actually making something I would wear! Case in point is UK-based designer Georgia Hardinge and her first collection. I'm smitten with the way she's manipulated the pieces below, from the big pleats and pretty bows to the colour combos. I can't wait to see what she creates next and of course the stockist because I'm sold! Visit the designer here to discover more from this collection.

Made in Ethiopia | Taytu

I recently discovered Taytu at Barneys and actually purchased a bag for myself and a few scarves for friends + relatives who have birthdays coming up. I'm absolutely smitten with this label and adore all the pieces Barneys carry, which you can see here. Below are photos from their lookbook, which I find inspiring! I love that they use local embroiderers and jewelers to create their leather accessories, in addition to using leather produced in Ethiopia and metals, beads, and stones found in Ethiopia. Elegant Form | Evan & Dean

I had the pleasure of sifting through the virtual lookbook of label Evan & Dean, by Canadian designers Raymond Boutet and Lyle Reimer. After taking in their entire Fall 09 collection and reading about their inspiration, I walked away liking a lot of what I saw. The elegance factor throughout this collection and how each piece drapes the body is the real cherry topper. Perhaps it's the styling, but these are clothes meant to be worn by women who rock the board rooms but could easily stand-out at a cocktail party. Overall they have a solid collection that should be seen in person, because the details look amazing. Take the first dress, while the ruffles are the first thing you notice, it's the colours {hints of yellow woven in with grey} that deserve a deeper look. Their entire collection is like this, which is why I took my time with their lookbook. I was particularly smitten with the looks below but they have plenty more, so visit and explore.

Whimsical Headwear | Nila Taranco

Since my big day is merely weeks away I've decided that I would spend one day indulging in all that's sweet, beautiful, and pretty. So you'll have to excuse me as I overdose on the sugary + feminine. First up is Madrid-based designer Nila Taranco. I've been in love with her whimsical headwear for a while now, below are my picks, but do visit and explore her entire world.

Self Indulging | Memo to Self

Just to show you how completely silly I am I decided I'd share one of my reminder notes on my iphone, since they released the latest software I've gone crazy with the memos to self hehe, and I swears I'm a singer, just swears it! But seriously It really is a great improvement, because it allowed me to eliminate the need for a recorder JUST for that. I'm also working on today's features, normally they'd be all ready to go, but I'm late, late, late. And today will be all about the whimsical + blissful, so check back in a few. Oh yeah I have a scan of the Clam issue and I love it! I feel geeky sharing, so err perhaps later this week when I'm ready for a drink I will, because it's not about me but SheBreathes. Sometimes I think it's better to hear than read, because then you get intent, etc down, especially rants + commentaries, but I'll spare you any audible diatribes for now {smile}.

The Dream Maker | Vionnet

I'm not into resort or cruise collections because honestly I find most of them to be a bit much, or perhaps an over-extension of the designers prior or next collection. But who am I to deny a designer their right to flood the market with collections? This is more of a personal stance than a creative one. All that aside I'm completely smitten with the cruise 2010 collection from Vionnet, the fashion house of master couturier Madeleine Vionnet. The house is being reintroduced with Rodolfo Paglialunga as the creative director and what a timely feat, considering there is an exhibition in Paris now honouring the designer. She knew how to dress the female body, which is an art not a technique. The pieces below match the draping and ruche that Vionnet was known for, so kudos to Mr. Paglialunga for capturing the essence of Vionnet. I'm excited and can't wait to see more! I leave you with you a quote from Madeleine Vionnet, “designers make dresses, artists make dreams”.

Made in Spain | Malababa

I'm a huge fan of Spanish designer Ana Carrasco's accessory label Malababa, especially her clutches and leather headbands. Ms. Carrasco does good job of mixing classic shapes with trendy ones. Her bags are soft to the touch which is a major point with me, because I don't like bags that look or feel stiff. During my last visit to Spain my friend Pia had several of Malababa bags strewn about her room, and I was tempted to take a few of them, but I'm happy to say I didn't. But it did prompt me to look back in my closet to rediscover a brand I've never shared on here. The pieces below are from the 08 collection, which I think captures the brands vision well. The Spring 09 collection is online so, I encourage you to visit here, here, and here to see more from them.

Collection Love | AESA

I'm always drawn to agate it's a mysterious element that's always tempted me. So it's no surprise that I'm loving these agate pieces from jewelry label AESA. I like all the pieces below but I'm torn between the Geo + Saita {first and second necklaces}, both are from their 2009 collection. I had the opportunity to see these on a woman at a recent event and couldn't resist getting the name out of her. The piece she had on looked amazing against her skin and for some reason she seemed happier than anyone else in the room. I won't give AESA full credit for that but happiness is infectious and so is lovely jewelry.

Beauty | Summer Skincare Protection

A few weeks ago we discussed summer haircare protection, and I felt it only natural to address skincare protection in this post. Now, I must let you all know that I love the summer, sun, and the beaches just as much as everyone else, but sun protection is important all year round! Here are my top picks for protecting your skin:

Beauty1

Lavera's Anti-Aging Facial Sunscreen and Moisturizer SPF 20 is 100% mineral based, formulated with organic ingredients and is free of parabens. It protects against both UVA & UVB rays and because it's a moisturizer it can easily be worn under makeup.

6a00d8341c627a53ef011570551339970c-800wi For those of you with sensitive skin, I recommend Dermalogica's Super Sensitive FaceBlock SPF 30. It's mineral based, provides a broad-spectrum (UVA & UVB rays) of protection, and is ideal for easily irritated skin.

6a00d8341c627a53ef01157055158a970c-800wi

The Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF 55 PA+++ by Shiseido is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. It also provides a broad-spectrum of protection. It's full of antioxidants and claims to leave no residue or stickiness.

Please keep in mind that sunscreens are available in various weights, formulas, and may react differently on various skin types. I encourage you to be patient when searching for a sunscreen that works for your skin type and remember, everyone should wear sunscreen regardless of your complexion!

Revisiting | Tina Kalivas

As many of you know from my past feature I'm a huge fan of Australian-based designer Tina Kalivas. Seeing her home on The Selby prompted a revisit {because I wasn't going to post anything today, a bit sad like so many}. Below are looks from her Zarafshan collection, which is inspired by Afghanistan women who live outside of Sydney, who also helped create the collection. I love it! I also love the colourful embroidery against muted tones. Visit to explore the entire collection.

Clam Magazine | Issue # 19 + Me

I did an interview with Clam Magazine not to long ago and today I was told the issue is out and the best part is yours truly is on page 3! And yes there is a foto, hehe. Mystery solved {smile}. And since I've discussed my love affair with Clam on here a few times it's truly an honour to be included in their magazine. They also did an awesome tribute to Brasilian artist Emanuel Araújo, and they asked me what he meant to me, so yeah pick it up, and read hehe! If you're in NYC check the racks of Universal News and if you happen to scan it, please send me a copy, as I haven't received my copy yet. Below is some e-cards {click to enlarge} of where you can get the magazine in the USA and London. In Your Closet | Nicola Finetti

There is something refreshing about seeing a designer present their collection as if it were already in your closet. Australian-based designer Nicola Finetti's A/W 09 collection is presented this way and I'm smitten. It's easier to digest this collection and imagine myself in several pieces. It's like a virtual dressing room sans the mirrors. There is a quiet quality to this presentation, with each piece whispering "take me home". Visit, explore, and imagine.

The Graduate | Anna Unger

I'm diggin' a few pieces from LCF graduate Anna Unger's Wild Angel collection. Despite the name of this collection the pieces below are delicate and ultra chic. The fit and muted tones against pretty splashes of colour is rather delicious. I can't help but be enamored with the model, she's not over posing {something I wish would end}, she's simply wearing these pieces. And while I wasn't enamored with the entire collection, these are the stand-outs and will keep me revisiting. Visit and explore her inspiration, be sure to checkout the detail fotos.

A Twist On Vintage Jewelry

Along with vintage fashion I've always adored vintage jewelry. I've been gradually building my collection and have become more intrigued since discovering reworked vintage jewelry. In tune with the popular green phenomenon, designers are working overtime to stay aware and create sustainability through their work. With the heightened demand for exclusivity in fashion increasing every second, this just may be the route to go.

One of my recent finds (thanks to Ms. Shoo) is Sid Vintage by designer Natalie Bennett. She fuses dead stock vintage chains with gaudy baubles to create complete lines of statement pieces, like earrings, rings, bracelets, and necklaces.

SID-VINTAGE-COLLAGE1

Then there is House of Lavande which has an exquisite offering of couture vintage jewels that will leave you breathless. You'll find amazing craftsmanship like those of famed jewelers like Kenneth Jay Lane, YSL, and Trifari

House-1

And it was Reverie that motivated to do this post after viewing a few pieces online — which were totally captivating. The designer Alison Woodward has mastered the ability to use vintage materials to create a modern look throughout her collections.

ARISE | Africa Fashion Week 2009

After exploring ARISE Magazine I've been patiently waiting for their African Fashion Week and now it's here! The shows are currently taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, and they're filled to the brim with designers that have me wishing I was there. Thanks to African Fashion International I can peruse and discover. Below are my picks thus far, be sure to visit and discover your own.

It's no secret that I love prints {Suno, Sika, Boxing Kitten, Acomb, Neon, etc}, which is why I'm drawn to Lisa Folawiyo's Jewel by Lisa {website is under construction}. While the label is new to me, it's not to the African fashion community. Thanks to Bella Naija, I learned that the designer has done collections for Vlisco, a textile brand I covered before. Her current collection is filled with so many pieces I'd rock! The colours, prints, and silhouettes all have me drooling. As soon as I know where to buy, I will share! Explore the entire collection here.

Collection Love | Albino

I really dig a lot of the pieces in Albino D'Amato's F/W 09 collection. Not only do the cocoon like coats stand-out, but it's his use of colour; like emerald, topaz, and amethyst that separated him from the doom + gloom look in many Fall '09 collections. Sometimes it's that splash of colour that let's the world know, this too shall pass. Visit + explore more from this collection, especially the detail shots.

Irresistible | Vika Gazinskaya

First Jack & Jill gave me a glimpse of the designer, now Elle is proving to me that I should have listened to my gut, and shared Russian Designer Vika Gazinskaya's latest collection. I've had several of her fotos saved in a folder, dubbed "maybe" — how foolish of me. So despite my aversion to being redundant, I share, because her delicate + sculptural silhouettes are just too gorgeous to pass up. They're begging to be admired and in someone's closet. Visit and explore each piece side by side, perhaps then you'll forgive me for reblogging her S/S 09 collection, which I'm sure will set the blogosphere on fire, if it hasn't already.

Nostalgia | Shoo Magazine

I'm often asked how I got my online nom de plume "Ms. Shoo", which is usually after someone asks me if I meant to say "Choo", but err no. I chose this name, not only because I design shoes for a living but also because I was inspired by an out of print magazine Shoo — which catered to all things beautiful; like shoes, handbags, jewelry, and general fashion accessories.

SHOOMAGAZINECOVERS1

Shoo Magazine was UK based, which at the time required some scouring to find stateside. It came out a few times a year, and it never failed to inspire + excite. Long before blogs were vying for content, Shoo filled a void in the market. Not only did they talk about the Manolo's and Choo's of the world, they were covering Beatrice Ong and N. Kirkwood, long before the world caught on. They did it so well, that I often begged my aunt {London based} to grab and send the first copy she saw, on her side of the pond. It's amazing how she still reminds me of how she knows every magazine seller's name, because of my need for this magazine. It wasn't that Shoo didn't come to the states, it was that it was always in small quantities, which were often gone once I found a vendor who sold it.  Eventually the mag was distributed in B&N's across NYC and were no longer the little magazine only I devoured. Sadly, they stopped printing in maybe '05 or '06 {not sure exactly when}, and now all I have are memories, of a magazine that served a well edited purpose. Below is a bit of a photo shoot I did to go along with my nostalgia.

So, thank you to the creators of Shoo Magazine, for the slick editorials, informative interviews, and of course helping me with my moniker, and adding to my little black book of designer goodies. You were the voice of the emerging and new in the world of shoes, bags, and jewelry! If you ever decided to revamp, know I'd happily subscribe, because you truly weren't a waste of trees or money. Art of Shoes | Guillaume Hinfray

I've been beaming ever since receiving an email directing me towards Guilluame Hinfray's new e-shop! As a huge fan of his shoes this is heaven sent! His shoes are like works of art to me, so decadent and sumptuous. You really have to hold one of his shoes to fully take in the details. His haute couture background can be seen in every stitch and colour/material selection, not to mention each shoe is lined with silk satin. I'm partial to the shoes with his signature piercing, because I think it throws you for a beautiful loop. My admiration for Mr. Hinfray goes deeper than his craftsmanship and being a shoe designer. It seems to me his work isn't just a commodity but it's what he breathes and this is solidified with each collection he releases. Below are looks from the S/S 09 collection, visit and explore more.

Beauty | Summer Haircare Protection

I can't begin to tell you all how happy I am now that summer is here, long-awaited and overdue! As we all know, with summer comes lots of time spent in the sun, swimming in pools and many trips to beaches and lakes. And, unfortunately this means stress on your hair!

Avedacollection

Aveda recently released a Sun Care collection of products which includes the Protective Hair Veil, Hair and Body Cleanser and After-Sun Hair Masque. It's a 3-part regimen, filled with antioxidants and certified organic ingredients, formulated to provide protection from the sun, chlorine and salt water.

Kerastase suncare 3

I started using the Soleil collection, by Kerastase, last summer after moving my running workouts from indoors to outdoors. The collection is perfect for reviving hair exposed to the sun, chlorinated or salt water — and includes a range of products specific to your hair type, which I absolutely love! My favorites from the collection are the Bain Apres-Soleil, Creme Richesse and the Micro-Voile Protecteur.

The Marine Summer Hair collection by Frederic Fekkai, focuses on UV protection and a blend of deep hydrating marine extracts called AquaNutrients. The limited edition set includes the Marine Clean Detox Shampoo, Beachcomber Leave-In Conditioner, Zero-Humidity Frizz Control and Beach Waves.

The collections I've presented above are all wonderful for the hair, but the beauty tip I'd like to leave with you is to make sure you're selecting products for your specific hair type and needs, only then will you find the products that work best for you! Both are Brasilian, both look like they could be a part of my family, and of course someday I'd love to work with them on a campaign. These two ladies have been inspiring me ever since they hit the runways and the pages of magazines. So let me throw it out there {heehee}, I believe wholeheartedly that my dream of working with both will come true. Watch this space + this one, because both are coming very soon. And you never know who may end-up on one or both. Remember Beautiful is Beautiful, and I believe both have a very long career ahead of them.

So many goodies, so much I want to spill, in due time my friends, in due time.

Let Go | Afshin Feiz

I'm always clicking around NJAL,because I know it never fails to inspire me, or usher me towards a designer I may have otherwise overlooked. That's how I discovered Afshin Feiz, perhaps you know who he is, but I was clueless, yes it happens, even to me {smile}. I was immediately smitten with his S/S 09 collection, dubbed Sometimes You Just Have To Let Go. The soft feminine pieces are definitely something I can see myself in, because they flow and hug the body in all the right ways. Visit to see more from this collection.

Summer 2009/10 | Fashion Rio

I was going to wait until the entire week was done but Fashion Rio is well underway churning out looks for the summer. One revisit and two Brasilians labels, I've never shared on SheBreathes. A few hits and some misses, but it happens. We can't be constantly pleased. Below are my picks, but if you can't wait for the me, do visit here to get your fill of fashion in Rio. And since most of the designers that will be showing, I've already covered do peruse the Discover Brasil section for links!

Remember AquaStudio? Well they've returned with some more decadent pieces. And yes I did receive my dress from them, just haven't gotten around to sharing it. Soon. like after the wedding.

Aquastudiocollagenew

Têca by Helô Rocha showed and for the first time I liked a lot of the pieces. While, the brand isn't new to me, it's new to SheBreathes. I really like the floral prints and I'm usually not a "floral" girl.

Teca-collage-new

And something to inspire you to keep with those crunches, Jaqueline DeBiase's swimwear label Salinas! I'm loving the prints and the supposed Almodóvar inspiration.

Delicate Craft | Ramón Gurillo

I love these knit + embroidered crochet pieces from Spanish designer Ramón Gurillo's S/S 09 collection. He never fails to wake my senses, which is why I couldn't resist sharing. Subtle craft still has a place amongst the grandiose. Visit and explore more of his work, because this is only a snippet.

Universal Love | Sara Weinstock

I've been enamored with jewelry designer Sara Weinstock's Universal Love collection for a while now. I visit her virtual space at least once a month, trying to decide if I should plunge head on or add her lovely creations to my virtual wishlist. I still can't decide, but I can share. The rings get me every time, not to mention she has Sam Sparro's Black + Gold as her theme song — which I dig and have on constant rotation. My picks below, visit + discover your own. Remember dreaming doesn't cost anything.

Discover | Roberta Furlanetto

I've been a fan of Italian designer Roberta Furlanetto for a while now. After my last trip to Italy, I decided to visit her virtual space and record her stockist, and swore I'd visit L'eclaireur in Paris while I was in Europe. I had to see her S/S 09 collection in person, because I was enamored with more than a few pieces. Sadly, I didn't make the boutique and once again I'm kicking myself for leaving London without visiting Dover Street Market, which carries some of her pieces too. Sometimes the heart wants, but the head forgets. All that aside, Ms. Furlanetto's collections are often filled with soft and sharp silhouettes, that look like they took months to make. The details in each piece must be seen in person, photos do them no justice. Her attention to detail comes as no surprise to me, considering she's collaborated with designers like Christian Lacroix and Azzedine Alaïa. Visit and explore all her collections, because if you don't know who she is, you should.

Below is a mix of the S/S 09 and A/W 09-10 collections.

DreamCatcher | Martha Davis

After featuring a few looks from shoe designer Martha Davis' S/S 09 collection, I knew she had to be added to the DreamCatcher Series. Not only is Ms. Davis creating drool-worthy shoes, she also brings years of experience from her industrial design background into each of her collections. So, it's with pleasure that I introduce you to Martha Davis, a designer who should be in your closet.

Marthadavis-portrait

Ms. Davis could you please tell us a little about your background?

I have a BA in Sculpture, but got a job as an industrial designer right out of school. I'm kind of an artist/engineer geek — I love the combination of form and utility. I worked for a few design offices, then started my own firm in NYC, after three years. My clients spanned a wide range of industries, from cosmetic to furniture/lighting, electronics, and medical. I spent a fair amount of time in the operating room, working on endoscopic surgical devices. One of my more commercial designs is the Dialpak for J&J — a fascinating, ten year project that has saved billions of pounds of plastic, and made birth control accessible to millions of women {for more information click here}.

What is your design process?

What ever I am designing, I start with a lot of research to learn how it works, how its made, who uses it, where, and why. I also try to understand what's going on in the marketplace, what's interesting, and where the opportunity is. I look at materials and manufacturing processes — peripheral industries can be really interesting too. There is not a huge amount of innovation in the footwear industry so bringing in ideas from other places is important. After I get an idea of what I want to do, I sketch and make models. I learned to make paper patterns and models at Ars Sutoria and think it is super important. Once I narrow the ideas down, I use the computer to refine and visualize views, manipulate shapes, and apply colors.

Mdavis-1

The last step is prototyping and material selection, which I do with my factory in Venice. They have been making shoes for centuries and are astounding craftsmen. I learn endlessly from them and I'm constantly asking them to break the rules.

What kind of woman wears Martha Davis shoes?

Women that are confident and independent thinkers, love design, value quality and originality. What inspires you? Design that is so simple its clear there is no other way. Like a two penny nail or a canoe, or a pea pod — perfect.

Marthad-2

Do you have any favourite designers?

This is a huge mashup: Achille Castiglione, Maison Martin Margiela, Luis Barragán, Deiter Rams, Vivienne Westwood, Noguchi, Neutra, Rei Kawakubo, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Maria Cornejo, Anne Demeulemeester, Harry Bertoia.

What's your advice for those who wish to become a shoe designer?

To design anything I think there's one basic principle — learn how it's made and used so you know how you can change it. I also believe that it's really important to learn how to draw.

Marthad-8

What can we expect from Martha Davis in the future?

I saw a big problem finding cool, wearable shoes and now a problem finding bags and jackets to go with them. Maybe something to do with unusual jewelry at some point too.

Besides your beautiful shoes, what else are you passionate about?

My son and his music. Art, gardens, and hardware.

Do you have a favourite shoe from either the Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter 09 collection?

I wear the open toe booties from the Spring/Summer collection every single day, in every color. It is amazingly comfortable and warm. I live in San Francisco and it's freezing in the summer. I also love the booties and strappy heels from the Fall/Winter collection. I wear them with socks.

Marthad-5

Your favourite place to shop and your favourite city to spend a day in?

Metier and Harputs Market in San Francisco, Chinatown and Ted Meuling in NY, Orlandi in Milan, Vinçon in Barcelona, and any hardware store in the world. It's hard to pick one city, but I would have to say Rome, Tokyo and Buenos Aires.

What's your definition of a "DreamCatcher"?

I feel really strongly that if you have a passion, you need to follow it in whatever way or capacity possible. Sometimes the hardest part is finding it, but when you do, you will be successful because it is the real you. I feel incredibly privileged to be able to follow my dream. It took a lot of work and guts to do it.

Oh Goody | Maurizio Pecoraro

I've found some gems in Italian designer Maurizio Pecoraro's F/W 09 collection. Upon first look I didn't think I would, goodness knows he was all over the place. But finally a breath of fresh air came at the end, with these embellished blouses in ivory or black, that were paired nicely with tuxedo pants. These babies are so over-the-top lovely, they're begging to be DIYed! I'm convinced this was the cohesive element that Mr. Pecoraro was aiming for. It's also why I will revisit to see what he does next.

Mpecocaro-collage-aw09

I also liked these, you know me and coats. The middle look is how the above pieces looked paired with the tuxedo pants, sharp!

Inspired by History | Susanna Galanis

I love the antique gold collection from jewelry designer Susanna Galanis. Each piece looks like it was excavated from the earth, which further solidifies her "Inspired by history" motto. I love the whimsical charms, they're the perfect addition to pieces that are already beautiful. Jake, one of my favourite online boutiques {that's a brick + mortar} carries her collections, along with a few other places. Visit for the stockist, and explore more of her collections.

Imagination | Aurelio Costarella

Imagine rummaging through your closet and rediscovering one of Australian-based designer Aurelio Costarella's beautiful dresses. Placing your hand on the wooden hanger, you're immediately transported back to the first time you wore it. The ruffles, the tulle, the draping, the compliments you received that night. You remove it from the closet and run your hands over every stitch, wondering how many hours it took to make. You walk towards the mirror and hold the dress against your body, smiling, because you've still got it. Childhood memories of you playing in your mum's closet run across your mind, inspiring a desire to play dress-up. Oh how you drowned in her clothes. You imagine the day when your future daughter will do the same. You slip back into the dress, grab your camera, and set the timer, giggling as it captures these unrehearsed moments. You fully embrace this memory, secretly thanking the designer for creating such a whimsical piece. You save the outtakes. You will share them with your children and they will share them with their children. You imagine the kick you'll get out of them when you're 80. Slipping out of the dress, hanging it back in it's place, you think this is now part of history.

Dresses below are from his S/S 09-10 collection. Perfectly poised to work well beyond the runway + editorials. Visit + explore more.

Small Gestures + Happy Weekend

I received a beautiful bouquet of Orange Tulips yesterday, courtesy of our beauty expert Kitiya. They're very pretty + smell great, she ordered them from my favourite Florist — Ariston, and I couldn't resist sharing. Muito Obrigada Kitiya! You're such a kind soul and it's small gestures like this that reinforce my belief that there truly are some cool people in this world. Have a beautiful weekend everyone, and see you on Monday with more goodies!

Drape + Flow | José Miró

There is just something about the A/W 09-10 collection from Spanish designer José Miró. I love the soft and strong vibes from this collection, very much like a "warrior woman" gone chic. And the pairing of the thigh-high leather boots, adds the edge to pull off the pieces that drape and flow. This collection {to me} is his best thus far. I can see these pieces off the runway, sans the thigh-high leather boots, and in a few closets of women who dare to be individual.

Beauty | Green Your Makeup

Hello Everyone! I'm back with the final segment of the "green your beauty" routine series. So far we've discussed skincare and haircare options, and believe it or not, there are "greener" options when it comes to selecting your makeup.

Cargoplantlove-image

CARGO Cosmetics recently released their PlantLove collection of makeup, which includes twenty moisturizing lipsticks formulated with both organic and natural ingredients. Not only am I loving the wide selection of colors, but also the fact that the lipstick case and lipstick box are eco-certified.

6a00d8341c627a53ef01156fb42419970c-800wi

I prefer to use Tarte Cosmetics' Cheek Stain when I'm trying to achieve a "naturally flushed" look. It's a water based gel blush, available in nine shades, and is oil, alcohol, and paraben free. And as a bonus it contains a T5 Super Fruit Complex, which delivers anti-aging and restorative benefits to the skin.

6a00d8341c627a53ef01156fb425b0970c-800wi

My favorite drugstore brand of mascara is Voluminous Original Mascara by L'Oreal. I'm happy to report the launch of their Bare Naturale Mascara, which is paraben and fiber free. Though the formulations of the two mascaras are obviously different and result in different looks, I'm still excited about the choice of a "greener" option.

Now I know I've said this twice already, but please allow me to say it just one more time — "buying products that use less toxic chemicals" is one way to take action when it comes to protecting the earth. I sincerely hope that you'll consider the many options presented to you over the past couple of weeks, as well as other available options, and make Earth Day every day!

Collection Love | T.E.M.O.R.E.S

I saw a foto of a skirt by Mexican label T.E.M.O.R.E.S, posted by Maria Vidal over at Diane's a Shade View on Fashion {a daily must read}, and it's one of the few times I couldn't resist sharing. So I interrupt a few regularly scheduled discoveries to share a label I'm smitten with. I love the declaration on their website "I am Happy because I do what I love", ditto! Looks below are from the A/W 08-09 collection, yes I know but I was most taken with this collection, especially the white pieces. Everything is pretty dope, and I love seeing conceptual pieces come to life. I'm ready to take a plane to Mexico to indulge. I need to run my fingers all around these pieces, to confirm if they are as delicious as they appear. View more here.
